This festival is not about photography, nor is it about photographers. This festival is about stories, stories that express a vision on the world around us. And yes, the authors of these stories that we show you are photographers, and they use the photographic medium to tell those stories. Because photography is one of the most powerful mediums with a practically universal appeal.
The stories we show don’t only show the beauty of our world, but address the challenges, the difficulties and the opportunities we need to address in today’s world. It is our challenge to show the audience points of view that can entertain, and that matter enough to question common wisdom. It is with this idea in mind that we selected the nine photographic authors of this edition. One project deserves a special mention here: the residency that Arnau Bach has executed here in St. Brieuc. It is a long-time wish of the Festival to invite an artist in residence, a project which we are honored to have initiated with Arnau as our first guest.
The festival has gone through several stages of development in the last few years, another new challenging step is the concentration on one main venue, the area around the Carré Rosengart. With the support of the Association More we are excited to show half of the exhibition outdoors, which will hopefully lead to a different way of interaction with the stories that we present.
We look forward to a special fifth edition of the Photoreporter Festival, and invite you all to celebrate the stories we produced together with us and their authors.
